It Seems So Far Away...

My last post seems like a million years ago!

Last weekend the bf and I took a trip to Muir Woods and drove along the coast a little bit. The whole day was blue and warm, but as the sun started to set, the fog started to settle.

Where I long to be...

... the summer is just about over, and I'm being hit with the travel bug. This time of year always sends me into a nostalgic frenzy of nature, deliciously saturated colors, and whimsical beauty.

Sew Sew Sew

So it's been just over a month since I purchased a sewing machine... and I love it! I made this purse out of an old pair of jeans and some leftover scraps of fabric. I made another purse from a pattern, a cozy warm neck cowl and even a dress. But the dress unfortunately did not turn out how I wanted it to... but I'm learning with each new item I sew! I can't even remember the last time I used a sewing pattern before this. Probably not since I was in high school! Anyway, I just wanted to show off my cool new purse. I love it!

Hair Art

I have always enjoyed creating artwork out of various materials. Sometimes I wish I was able to stick to just one medium, but that is not who I am....

Recently I began sewing some art for my hair. I think it started because I wanted a way to spruce up my wardrobe without really spending too much money. I found some really colorful felt made from recycled plastic bottles! The colors were bright and felt is so easy to work with.

I'm going to start adding these art pieces into my etsy shop over the next few days. I just did a photoshoot and have loads of pics to sort through.

Here is a fascinator/side headband in b&w:

Berkeley Works

I went to the Berkeley Marina to watch their free fireworks show. I sat down right along the water's edge and waited for the show. You could see fireworks going off all around the Bay... San Francisco, Oakland, Marin and lots more places that I am unable to name. We had awesome seats and a great time! My camera does not take good pictures in the dark, but I managed to snap a few that I think are neat...

Heading out of the Marina was quite interesting. There was a very large amount of people walking in a line to get over the bridge. I could not believe how many people actually had come to the event! There was a bunch of Hare Krishna's chanting and beating drums for the walk back and I have to admit it was the perfect thing to hear for that walk. It felt like it was keeping the crowd moving... plus there was a nice beat to walk to. I found the whole evening to be surreal! It was great...

Work In Progress

I have been sidetracked lately and unable to focus on art or much else for some reason. But I feel like I'm back in business. Sometimes you just have to step away from what you are doing. Here is something I'm working on now. It's a painting and has a few more hours of work before its completed. I had a different color scheme going and maybe that is what put me off. The colors were not working together and it was taking entirely too many layers for my gold paint to look, well, like gold. So I opted to forgo the gold paint and instead am using a bright poppy red. I think I'm pleased with how this is shaping up now. Here is a little corner of the painting... let me know what you think!

My Fingerprint Painting

After many many hours, I am finally finished with my latest painting. I'm calling it "My Fingerprint" because that is what it is to me. I don't always name my paintings, but this one seemed to name itself as I was painting it. It just seems like a really cool fingerprint... one I would want to have as my own!

Anywho - on to the pics! The painting is also in my shop: click

First is a closeup:

From an Old Sketchbook

I scanned some of my artwork from a sketchbook a few years ago - when I actually owned a scanner! The scan did not do the colors any justice. I did this probably 5 or 6 years ago! It's so interesting to look back at all the artwork I have done over the years. I haven't done abstract work such as this in a little while... I think I'm going to break out the prismacolor pencils!

Oh deer!

I saw a cute little deer mommy and her babies. Found this trio walking the streets of N. Berkeley. Why oh why is that momma deer's tongue sticking out? I know, best photo it is not... but if you look closely, you can see her tongue sticking out the side of her mouth.
The rest of these pictures were taken in the Rose Garden in N. Berkeley. It's a great walk up from my apartment and the reward is seeing all the pretty houses, fantastic views and last but not least, the amazing beauty and aroma of the roses.

Cruisin 'round Cali

Recently I traveled a little past San Francisco and of course I took some pictures. I hope you enjoy them!

First I went to Briones Regional Park in the East Bay. It felt so wild there! Along the way we passed signs for Happy Valley Way and that is exactly what Briones turned out to be. A happy little valley, very wild and natural. The only thing I did not like was we had to drive past a PG&E electrical station. But, it was quickly passed and quickly forgotten.

We also drove to Daly City and wanted to check out Mussel Rock Beach.

Then it was off to Half Moon Bay!

On the trip back I took a few photos while we were driving. These are the only two that came out well!
